The first volley

Posted on Sunday 11 June 2006

A good NH tennis friend (B. Manning) gave some great advice yesterday on how to prevent ‘running through’ that first volley.

He advises: picture a basketball player dribbling hard toward the basket and then pulling up to shoot a jump shot. He jumps (with his weight still moving forward) and then at the top of his leap ALMOST SEEMS TO PAUSE to shoot.

It is that stop action pause we should try to imitate as we come in and have to hit the first volley. Try it… it worked for me!
