Naples Tier II Doubles: Tom McCune and I started our doubles match against two guys down for the week from Massachusetts at 3:30, under sunny skies, and ended after 6 p.m. under the lights – in a match that the spectators called “very entertaining.â€
Naples Bath & Tennis Day 2: Today’s second round singles match was against Tony Cessna of KY. I had a chance to ‘scout’ him yesterday after my match and saw a guy with solid, driving groundstrokes, with a two-handed backhand and an all around good game.
Naples Bath & Tennis Tier II: Today was the first day of the “biggie,†the international Tier II event as the second in the Senior Grand Prix series. My first round singles opponent in the round of 64 was Carl Gagliardi of Branford, Connecticut.
Ft. Meyers Doubles: While Tom McCune and I were seeded #2 in the 60’s doubles at Ft. Myers, there were seven other teams entered that appeared to be as good or better than us. And after a first round bye, we played one of those teams late Friday afternoon.
Well, I have had my fill of Swedes! Today’s second round was against the #2 seed, Evert Jonsson, formerly of Sweden and now living on the Florida panhandle.
Today was day #1 of tournament #1 at the Colonial Country Club in Ft. Myers. My first singles match was against Jim Johanson, who is wintering here from Sweden. Jim is a solid player with good groundstokes and a fairly steady game.
The tournament season is here! On Monday, January 8th the first of four SW Florida tournaments, with over $40,000 in prize money, kicks off at the Colonial Country Club in Ft. Myers.
