Using the ball machine

I have not used a ball machine for many years; but when my practice partner cancelled at the last minute, I scheduled one for an hour. It was one of the best one-hour practice sessions I’ve had in a long time!

A Teachable Moment

Let’s start with the END of the story of my Longboat Key consolation singles match today… I lost. But I’m trying to learn from the loss and make this a “teachable moment.”

Rain. That was the forecast for Friday, starting about noon in Longboat Key. So Tom McCune got in his second round singles match in the morning; but the rest of us were rained out in the afternoon.

This week, Tom McCune and I entered 65 singles and doubles in this newly-crowned Category II USTA tournament on Longboat Key, about two hours north of Naples. There was a big 39-man draw in the singles and a full 16-team draw in the doubles (with big-time players in both).
